Medium garnet and ruby color in the glass thinning at the rim. Lovely aromas of raspberry, birch root, licorice, and rose petals; redolent. Bramble fruit, honey, cherry candy, with a touch of caramel; quite fruit forward. Some chalk and limestone minerals develop mid palate. Tannins are quite light. Acids provide a tentative framework for the fruit to balance against; gestural without being completely integrated. Eveningside’s Niagara Escarpment Cabernet Franc is a light to medium bodied wine with striking fruit potential. It lacks the concentration and depth to be an excellent wine but shows great potential. The fields and winery are fairly new and as both age the wines should become quite good hopefully developing display a greater sense of stylistic direction and cohesion. Eveningside is a vintner to watch from an area that is just getting started making fine wines. Finish goes a bit short but shows raspberry and cherry candy flavors, with some spice. Not bad as an aperitif but fruit could be too much for some palates, know your audience. Pair with quail or pheasant especially with fruit sauces.
