Brilliant medium golden color in the glass of this Hamptons Chardonnay. Rich aromas of vanilla, caramel, and dried apricots, with kiwi fruit notes on the bouquet. Punchy forward, golden and tart apples with honey; good fruit. Develops toast, butterscotch and spice. Lovely clean textures provide an interesting counterpoint to cellar flavors. Lighter malolactic fermentation keeps acid structures from becoming biting, allows fruit and earth flavors to contrast and resolves gracefully. Body is solid and linear but not light. Assuaging the roundness seen in some of the Chardonnays from the North Fork, Wolffer expresses a sense of Hamptons terroir with this wine. Well crafted, elegant, and balanced. Finish shows steel and loam giving way to classic Cote d'Or styling. Long and lingering toast, vanilla, and delicate hints of butter. Burgundian in approach but still very much a Hamptons wine. Pair with cheeses with some body. Also excellent with grilled Markel, Bluefish, or any other full flavored marine fish.
