Medium garnet and brick colors to the rim on this South Fork Pinot Noir, Cherries, mushrooms, berries with some dusty notes on the bouquet; solid mineral laced aromas. Flavors of cherries with a hint of blueberries contrast with earth tones. Dry linear focus with excellent acids undergirding fruit themes makes the wine exciting by through its contrasts. Medium bodied wine exhibits silky textures. Tannins are big but well integrated, good structure. Long finish develops crushed black pepper with some spice. Will improve with some cellaring. Apparently Wollfer will not be bottling Pinot Noir table wines choosing to redirect the grapes to sparkling Blanc de Noirs. Too bad, they seemed to have made some serious progress with this difficult grape. Not bad as an aperitif but tannins make it better with food. Pair with game fowl, especially with light fruit sauces, also good with French or German pork sausages dishes.
