Pale straw and gold with green sparkles on this Hamptons Sauvignon Blanc. Complex aromas of vanilla, band aids, light toast, baked bread, brown sugar, and eucalyptus; unconventional and compelling bouquet. Pears and golden apple flavors open over smoke and spice with developing classic Sauvignon Blanc notes of Meyers lemon and grass with a hint of key limes. Very interesting and unusual wine goes beyond classic expression of the varietal. Medium bodied and dry, the wine was partly fermented in steel and partly in a combination of French and Eastern European oak; partially new. This gives the wine a balance of contrasting smoothness from the wood over crisp textures from the fruit. Aging sur lie further mellows and enriches the wine while adding some viscosity to the textures. Not your standard Sauvignon Blanc. Finish shows more of the chardonnay component with apples and pears predominating over mineral and citrus notes. Good summer aperitif, however this is an unusual expression so your audience should not mind being challenged. Pair with raw mollusks or heartier fish simply prepared.
