Glenora’s 2008 Mason Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is the winery’s premium red. It shows medium to deep ruby and garnet in the glass solid to the rim. The bouquet is ripe showing deep cellar aromas of vanilla and butterscotch with fruit tones of black plum and cassis; quite redolent. Flavors are well differentiated with both fruit of cassis and plum themes with secondary notes of cigar box and tar. The development of these secondary flavors is surprising for such a young wine. This is a full bodied wine with grippy tannins. It will benefit from another three years in the cellar; probably best around 2013-2014. Glenora has made a serious effort with Mason Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon purchasing the grapes from across the lake in the Seneca Lake banana belt. Finish is long and lively showing some acid with minerals and continuing cassis themes. The wine makes for a good aperitif for those who don’t mind a bigger wine before dinner. Pair with grilled red meats.
