Pale straw and gold in the glass on Hermann Wiemer’s 2008 Joseph Vineyard Later Harvest Riesling. Aromas of slate, honeydew melon, ripe pear, lanolin, with a touch of citrus; impressive and complex. Pallet is quite ripe with marked flavors of honey and melon. Flavors of fresh fig, ripe pears, golden apples and white peaches with an undercurrent of key lime pie develop on the mid palate. Smooth textures on a solid complex off dry wine. Acids are restrained but the wine is still quite mouth watering and lively. Flavors are complex and rich without getting heavy or unctuous. Finishes smooth and long showing off its fruit and slate flavors. Bright and fresh. Probably too sweet before dinner. Pair with fresh fruit and cheese or sweet and savory Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine.
