Deep ruby red in color. Aromas of ripe black cherries and vanilla with a hint of smoke. A medium bodied wine very silky and polished. Wood is present from partial barrel fermentation and 18 month aging. Although the French oak give the wine a lovely richness it does not overpower the marked plum and cherry fruit flavors. Tobacco and cedar balances the fruit. Nice round grape tannins on the pallet yield to a candied plum, smoke, and toast. The finish is smooth, medium bodied, but long lasting. This is a very restrained Merlot but still retains its regional confident character. Although quite nice now it could still age for another couple of years in the cellar.
